FIVE WAYS TO
PREVENT YOUR CHILD FROM SMOKING
As a
parent, to see your child smoking can make you very sad. If your teenager or
your young adult child is thinking about smoking, it is your responsibility to
take action. Below are the “Five Ways To Prevent Your Child From Smoking” :
1.
Set an Example
Your child will most likely to question your authority to prevent them from smoking if you yourself smoke! Becoming a good example for your children is the major step towards this difficult challenge.
2. Act Early
If
your child is already smoking, you want to encourage them to stop the moment
you figure it out. It is not enough that you reprimand them. Today, youth are
more rebellious. They will just do it over again if you approach them negatively.
3. Explain the Health Consequences of Smoking
Most children lack awareness when it comes to the perils of smoking. At a very young age, they should be taught about it. As they grow up, they will meet many people who are addicted to smoking. But if they have sufficient knowledge, they will not be tempted to smoke because they will realize that in smoking, the risks outweigh the benefits.
4. Don’t Give them Too Much Money
You want to give your kids just the fair amount of money so they wouldn’t be tempted to buy cigarettes. You may even encourage them to save, instead of wasting money on cigarettes.
5. Explain how Smoking Changes their Appearance
Young people are more conscious about their appearance so it would be helpful if you will explain to them how smoking can damage their skin; make their teeth yellow, and the like. Smoking also makes a person look older much sooner (be careful with this one – some children smoke to look older also).
